If you are a woman with overly large breasts, breast
reduction surgery can be a tremendously life-enhancing option.
Heaving the procedure will give you far more than just
smaller, firmer breasts. You will also obtain significant
relief from many physical and emotional discomforts, a new
sense of freedom in your exercise and physical activity, and
the ability to wear a greater variety of clothing styles.
Breast reduction, also called reduction mammaplasty, is a
procedure that removes excess breast tissue and skin, making
your breasts more proportional to the rest of your body. The
areola may be reduced and repositioned as well. In fact, of
all the procedures that plastic surgeons perform, breast
reduction ranks among the highest in patient satisfaction.
Breast reduction is usually covered by insurance if you meet
the medical policy requirements of your policy. Dr. Duquette
performs this surgery in an outpatient setting although you
remain at the Outpatient Center overnight (23 hours) where you
receive care through the night by a Registered Nurse.
Most people experience temporary discomfort, swelling,
bruising, and a change in nipple sensation. You may return to
work 2-4 weeks depending on how well you heal, and the
requirements of your job. You may return to normal physical
activities in 6-8 weeks.
